Mercedes Schlapp is not the White House's advisor on strategic communications. It's not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to serve as the strategic communication adviser at White House. Schlapp has remained in the right frame of mind and stay on top of her game by working closely with White House teams in political matters, legislative affairs and policy as well the larger communications staff. Her focus to date is on issues like school safety and the opioid crisis, infrastructure, trade and other related topics. Schlapp doesn't deal with reporters often in her current position. Her name was a big draw after being named a candidate to replace Hope Hicks, the communications director. Mercedes Schlapp has a tough job as White House's strategic communications advisor. She's faced with the president, who acts as his own communication director and a myriad of legal disputes that could sabotage the strategy of communication for the administration as well as a host of Cabinet secretaries embroiled in controversies of their own. Schlapp has remained focused and on task, working with White House teams in political issues, legislative affairs, and policy, as well as the communications department in general. So far, her focus has been on issues like school safety, opioids, infrastructure, and trade. Schlapp doesn't deal with reporters much in her current role. However, she attracted a lot of interest in March, when she was mentioned as a potential replacement Hope Hicks as communications director. The fight has been fierce. Friends of Schlapp and Tony Sayegh, one of the other candidates for the post started fighting in the media. Schlapp confronted Sayegh following that the Washington Examiner printed a bad story on his character.
